The Top Load Washer Lid Switch Assembly with Plunger ensures that the washer door is closed while the washer is spinning. If the lid switch is broken, the washer will not spin. If the washer won't spin but will still agitate, the lid switch is likely defective. Sometimes the body of the switch may crack from slamming the washer lid over time, or the internal switch may fail and is no longer able to tell the washer the lid is closed. Replacing this part will require basic hand tools, some disassembly of the washer and novice repair experience. Remember to unplug the washer or shut off the house circuit breaker for the appliance before installing this part. Also be sure to shut off the washer's hot and cold water supplies. Helpful Tip: We also recommend using affresh® Washing Machine Cleaner* (item W10501250) once a month to help reduce odor-causing residue that can build up in your washing machine's drain without proper care. *affresh® brand products are owned and distributed by Whirlpool Corporation.
